Health center offering teens anti-smoking education

Reports show that people in Jeju begin smoking earlier than the rest of the nation.

According to online health statistics, on average Jeju youth begin smoking at age 12.4, 0.2 years less than the national average of 12.6 years.

Studies have shown that smokers who begin at a young age have a stronger tendency to continue smoking as adults. To address this public health issue, the Jeju Health Center is offering teens anti-smoking education and organizing signature campaigns to help young people steer clear of a nicotine habit.

처음으로 담배를 접하는 연령이 제주가 전국에서 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다.

통계청이 발표한 청소년 건강행태 온라인 조사에 따르면, 제주지역의 흡연 시작 연령은 12.4살로 전국에서 가장 낮았습니다.

이 같은 연령대는 전국 평균인 12.6살보다 0.2살 빠른 것입니다.

청소년기 흡연은 성인이 됐을 때로도 이어지는 만큼, 제주보건소는 금연 교육을 강화하고 청소년 금연서약 캠페인을 전개하고 있습니다.
