Province to protect more gotjawal forests
60ha of privately-owned land to be purchased in 2016

In an attempt to preserve the island’s unique gotjawal forests, the province will continue next year a program to acquire privately-owned areas of them.

Government officials say some 6 billion won will be allocated toward the purchase of 60 hectares of privately-owned land in (선흘) Seonheul and (와흘) Waheul in (조천읍) Jocheon-eup and (저지) Jeoji and (청수) Cheongsu in (한경면) Hangyeong-myeon.

Since 2009 the province has bought 412 hectares of privately-owned gotjawal forest. This year it spent 6 billion won to purchase 35 hectares.

道, 내년 곶자왈 60ha 매입 추진

제주특별자치도가 내년에도 곶자왈 매수사업을 지속적으로 추진합니다.

이를 위해 사업비 60억원을 투입해조천 선흘과 와흘, 한경 저지와 청수지역의
사유 곶자왈 60헥타아르를 매입한다는 계획입니다.

지금까지 제주도가 매입한 사유곶자왈은 412헥타아르에 이르고 있으며
올해의 경우 60억원을 투입해 35헥타아르를 사들였습니다.
