Candidates unable to register for election

Officials have yet to finalize electoral districts for the 20th legislative elections, and that means candidates aren’t able to register.

The Jeju Election Commission said Tuesday that, due to the cancellation of electoral districts on January 1st, it had been forced to delay filing registrations for candidates in the upcoming elections.

To avoid confusion, however, the 21 Jeju candidates that already finished registering will not have their registrations cancelled. They will be allowed to begin campaigning. The rest of the prospective candidates who have yet to receive formal approval will be barred from campaigning.

제20대 총선에 대한 선거구 획정이 늦어지면서
제주지역의 예비후보 등록도 차질을 빚고 있습니다.

제주도 선거관리위원회는 지난 1일을 기준으로 국회의원 선거구가 사라짐에 따라
신규 예비후보자의 경우 등록 접수는 받지만 수리는 보류시킨다고 밝혔습니다.

다만, 혼선을 고려해 이미 등록한 예비후보 21명은
등록 무효 처리하지 않기로 했습니다.

따라서 선관위는 예비후보자의 선거 운동은 허용하되,
예비후보자가 아닌 입후보예정자의 선거운동은
불법으로 판단해 집중 단속할 계획입니다.
