KCTV: KCTV's 7 Goals for New Year

KCTV Jeju has set seven goals for the new year. It promises viewers to lead the high-tech quote/unquote ‘Smartopia’ era beyond the convergence of broadcasting and telecommunications services. It also promises to work in its capacity as a local broadcaster to preserve and pass on to future generations the island’s traditional culture. Mike Laidman has more.

To lead a high-tech ‘Smartopia’

KCTV Jeju’s first pledge for the new year is to lead Jeju to become a high-tech ‘Smartopia.’

Expanded giga internet service, UHD broadcasts, mobile service

It will make its giga internet service and ultra-high-definition broadcasts more readily available across the island, as well as expand its cloud services and cellphone business, which includes both budget and LTE phones.

####To inspire local improvement ####

KCTV will encourage community improvements by providing the nation’s best local broadcast service.

Special news features for 2016 general election

It plans to run some special features for the April 13th general election to help voters choose the right candidate.

It is designing community-based news and programs, in addition to exchanging content with the Chinese Economic Net, a Chinese national information network that provides economic news reports.

#### To provide multi-content broadcast services ####

The nation’s first two-way channel, KCTV 20, will be richer to accommodate the demands of more varied viewer groups. KCTV will also offer more VOD options.

To expand the Digital Culture Village project

The station has plans to increase the number of villages that are equipped with cutting-edge digital infrastructures, like (가시리) Gasi-ri in (표선면) Pyoseon-myeon.

#### To help preserve and pass on cultural assets####

KCTV will take the lead in helping to preserve and pass on the island’s cultural assets to future generations.

To promote the Jeju Batdam Festival and hold concerts

An academic festival, the Jeju (밭담) Batdam Festival, will be enriched, and the Culture Concert and Jeju Language Children’s Song Contest will be held on a regular basis.

KCTV will contribute to cultural improvements by organizing vocal competitions and prominent performances.

#### To hold sports competitions and promote the sports industry ####

KCTV Jeju will promote the local sports industry by holding sports competitions.

To include a ‘poomsae’ competition as part of the National Peace Taekwondo Tournament and hold national team tryouts

KCTV is planning to include a (품새) poomsae, or Taekwondo form, event in the National Peace Taekwondo Tournament as well as tryouts for national team members.

#### To expand projects to help marginalized groups ####

KCTV’s ‘Love in Jeju’ project, which helps foreign spouses in Jeju visit their hometowns, will be expanded. The project also helps to aid their settlement in the island’s communities.

To continue the ‘Love in Jeju’ project for multicultural families

Also, financial aid for TV service for severely disabled residents from low-income brackets and senior citizens will be increased.
