Opposition to investigation of April 3rd Incident victims
Province, Ministry of the Interior plan fact-finding probe of 53 victims

A commission under the April 3rd Central Committee has expressed concern regarding a plan by the Ministry of the Interior and the provincial government to conduct a fact-finding investigation into 53 deceased people who are listed as victims of the April 3rd Incident.

Members of the commission on Wednesday expressed opposition to the possible removal of the names, saying that taking the names off the list would be like conducting a posthumous execution. The commission also said the investigation would be no different from conducting a review of the April 3rd Incident itself, calling the plan “unacceptable.”

The provincial government plans to first conduct the fact-finding investigation as requested by the Ministry of the Interior, and then discuss the situation with the commission.

"희생자 사실조사는 4·3 검증과 마찬가지"

제주도 4.3 실무위원회가 행정자치부와 제주도가 추진하는 4.3 희생자 53명에 대한 사실조사에 대해 우려를 나타났습니다.

오늘(6일) 열린 4.3 실무위원회에서 위원들은 위패로 모셔진 희생자를
심사를 통해 제외하는 것은 희생자에 대한 부관참시나 마찬가지라며 반대의사를 밝혔습니다.

또 4.3 희생자 검증과 다름 없는 희생자 사실조사를 위원회는 수용할 수 없다는
의견도 나왔습니다.

제주특별자치도는 일단 행자부 요청대로 희생자들에 대한
사실조사를 진행한 이후 다시 실무위원회로부터 검토의견을
받을 계획입니다.
