Education superintendents call for emergency meeting
Mounting concerns over losing funding for Nuri Program
As the central government and local education offices continue to clash over which side should finance the Nuri Program, a free childcare program for children aged three to five, the country's superintendents of education are calling for an emergency meeting to be held.
In a Wednesday press conference, the National Council of Superintendents of Education proposed holding an emergency meeting next Friday with leaders of the ruling and opposition parties, the Minister of Strategy and Finance, the Minister of Education, and the head of the National Council of Superintendents of Education. The plan would be for the attendees to come up with measures to solve the problem.
Earlier in the day, the Minister of Strategy and Finance said superintendents were displaying a neglect of duty by not including the Nuri Program in their local budgets. In response, the council said that if the central government takes legal action to force local education offices to pay for the program, they will be forced to take whatever countermeasures are open to them.
