NK tremor detected in Jeju
Too weak for general public to feel

A tremor was detected here in Jeju Wednesday, shortly after experts detected a seismic event near a nuclear site in North Korea.

The Jeju Regional Office of Meteorology said the tremor was detected at its office in Odeung-dong, Jeju City between 10:33 am and 10:35 am on Wednesday. Minutes earlier, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was detected near a nuclear site in North Korea. Pyongyang later claimed it had successfully carried out its first underground test of a hydrogen bomb but there has been no independent confirmation of the claim.

The Jeju regional office said the difference between the time of the earthquake and the tremor detected in Jeju was likely due to the distance between the two locations, adding that the tremor was too weak for the general public to feel, but strong enough to be detected on its devices.

북한 핵실험장 지진파 제주서도 감지

북한 핵실험장 인근에서 발생한 지진이 제주에서도 감지됐습니다.

제주지방기상청은 제주시 오등동에 있는 관측소에서 오늘(6일) 오전 10시 33분에서 35분 사이에 진동을 감지했다고 밝혔습니다.

기상청은 진앙과 제주까지 거리가 멀어 지진 발생 시각보다 다소 늦게 감지됐으며 사람에게 느껴질 정도는 아니고 장비에서만 관측되는 정도라고 설명했습니다.

앞서 오늘 오전 10시 30분 북한 함경북도 길주군 풍계리 핵실험장 인근에서
규모 5.1의 지진이 발생했습니다.
