Crackdown on origin labeling ahead of Lunar New Year holidays

The provincial government and police are reinforcing their crackdown on false country-of-origin labeling ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.

Police will focus on screening food items most frequently used for ancestral rites conducted during the national holiday, such as beef, pork, yellow corvina and tilefish. They will be conducting their reviews at major shopping outlets and traditional markets.

Officials will also inspect the ingredients used at restaurants that are found in tourist guidebooks and through smartphone applications.

In 2015, provincial police found 22 cases of false labeling and 8 cases of illegal livestock product distribution. It pressed criminal charges against or fined those violators.

제주특별자치도 자치경찰단이 설 명절을 앞두고 농수산물 원산지 표시 위반 단속을 강화합니다.

자치경찰단은 유관기관과 합동으로 대형 마트와 재래시장에서 판매하는
쇠고기와 돼지고기, 조기, 옥돔 등 제수용품을 중점 단속하기로 했습니다.

또 관광책자나 어플리케이션에 소개된 맛집에서 판매되는 제품에 대해서도
원산지 단속을 강화할 방침입니다.

자치경찰단은 지난해 원산지 허위 표시 22건과 부정축산물 유통행위 8건을 적발해
형사고발하거나 과태료 처분했습니다.
