Lunar New Year ancestral rites to cost 5% more this year

Food preparation for the upcoming Lunar New Year’s ancestral memorial rites will cost about 5 percent more this year than it did a year ago.

Based on its latest survey of food prices nationwide, the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation says a typical table will cost an average 232,000 won at traditional markets, 4.9 percent more than in 2015. Shoppers who head to regular grocery markets instead will be paying about 329,000 won, which is 5.3 percent more than last year.

The price hike is attributable to a sharp rise in beef prices, despite a drop in fruit prices.

올해 설 차례상 비용은 전통시장 23만 2천 원, 유통업체 32만 9천 원으로 조사됐습니다.

한국농수산식품유통공사가 전국 17개 시도의 전통시장과 유통업체를 대상으로 조사한 결과 차례상 비용은 전통시장의 경우 지난해보다 4.9% 오른 23만 2천원으로 예상됐습니다.

또 대형유통업체는 32만 9천원으로 지난해보다 5.3% 올랐습니다.

이처럼 차례상 비용이 오른 것은 과일 가격은 내려갔지만
소고기 가격이 크게 올랐기 때문입니다.
