Cable TV, major networks agree to resume VOD service
Service halted January 1 amid dispute

After much dispute, cable companies and the country’s major broadcasters have agreed to again provide current on-demand programming from the networks on cable tv.

Representatives from the Korean Cable Television Association and terrestrial television channels said they resumed the video-on-demand service Friday. It had been halted at the start of the month.

KCTV viewers can now watch all the latest shows from the major broadcasters at their leisure through KCTV’s VOD service.

The agreement also means cable tv networks will not pull MBC commercials off the air. That had been discussed when the two sides clashed over the VOD issue.

Representing all terrestrial tv channels, MBC halted its VOD services January first on cable tv.

VOD 즉 주문형 비디오 공급을 둘러싸고 빚어졌던 케이블 TV와 지상파 방송사들 사이의 갈등이 극적으로 봉합돼 지상파 신규 VOD 공급이 오늘부터 재개됐습니다.

한국케이블TV방송협회와 지상파 방송사들은 지난 1일부터 디지털 케이블TV 가입자에게 공급이 중단됐던 지상파 신규 VOD 서비스를 오늘부터 재개하기로 합의 했습니다.

이에따라 KCTV 시청자들은 오늘부터 지상파 방송사의 드라마와
예능 등 주요 프로그램의 신규 컨텐츠를 다시보기로 이용할 수 있게 됐습니다.

또 이번 합의에 따라 오늘부터 시행에 들어갈 예정이었던 MBC 광고 송출 중단도 실행하지 않기로 했습니다.

앞서 MBC를 중심으로 한 지상파 방송사는 VOD 공급 협상에서 케이블TV VOD 등을 통한 단체협상이 아닌 개별 SO가 지상파와 별도로 협상해야 한다고 요구하면서이달 1일부터 신규 VOD 공급을 일방적으로 중단했습니다.
