Sea-level rise threatening fishing port facilities
Some have already been damaged by rising waters

Jeju officials will inspect fishing ports across the island for damage caused by rising sea levels.

Ninety-nine ports, including smaller ones and those run by the province, will be examined through March.

Emergency repair work will be conducted as needed, and general maintenance operations will be planned and announced in August.

Certain areas of ports and their facilities are now becoming submerged at high tide. Problems have been found at Cheonjin Port in Udo, Shinchang Port in Hangyeong, Shinchon Port in Jocheon, Gangjeong Port in Seogwipo, and Wimi Port in Namwon.

해수면 상승과 같은 기후변화로 물에 잠기는 어항시설물이 잇따라
제주특별자치도가 실태조사에 나섭니다.

이에 따라 오는 3월까지 국가어항과 지방어항, 어촌정주어항,
소규모어항 등 99개소에 대해 기초조사와 함께 모니터링을 통해 현장 조사에 나섭니다.

조사결과 취약시설의 경우 긴급 보수.보강에 나서는 한편 오는 8월 종합적인 정비계획을 수립한다는 계획입니다.

현재 우도의 천진항과 한경의 신창항, 조천의 신촌항, 서귀포시 강정항, 남원 위미항의 경우 만조 때마다 잠기면서 제역할을 못하고 있는 실정입니다.
