Horse byproducts to be used in cosmetics
Researchers develop technology to extract anti-aging solvents from bones

You may soon be able to buy cosmetics made with the byproducts of Jeju horses.

In a joint study by the Rural Development Administration’s National Institute of Animal Science and Kangwon National University, researchers reportedly developed the technology to refine horse oil in a way to remove odors... and extract anti-aging solvents from the animals’ bones.

The technology to remove odors from horse oil has already been transferred to the cosmetics industry and researchers plan to do the same for that used to extract the anti-aging ingredients from bones, once they attain the proper patents.

The Rural Development Administration said it expects the latest developments will help boost the added value horse byproducts.

말 부산물의 부가가치를 높일 수 있는 길이 열려 관심을 모으고 있습니다.

농촌진흥청 난지축산연구소는 강원대학교와 함께 말기름 특유의 냄새를 없애는 정제기술과 말뼈에서 피부 노화를 억제하는 분해물을 분리하는 원천기술을 확보했다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 말기름 정제기술을 화장품 업체에 기술 이전했고
말뼈에서 분해물을 분리하는 제조법은 특허출원 후 제품 개발에 나설 계획입니다.

농촌진흥청은 이번 기술개발로 단순가공품으로 판매되던 말 부산물의 부가가치를 높일 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
