Jeju to lower water loss rate
Province aims to monitor leaks, reduce loss rate to 17% by 2021

The Jeju Office of Water Resources says the island has the nation’s highest rate of water loss, defined as the percentage of supplied water that is lost due to leaks or other factors.

The province announced it will create a management system to deal with the problem and monitor the flow and pressure of water in real-time. This will help to promptly deal with new leaks in the water supply network.

The province says its goal is to lower the rate of water loss in the network to 17 percent by 2021.

According to a 2013 report, Jeju at the time had the highest rate of water loss in the country, at 44 percent.


상수도 유수율 제고 시범사업 추진

제주지역 유수율이 50%에도 미치지 못하는 가운데 이를 높이기 위한 시범사업이 본격 추진됩니다. 제주특별자치도 수자원본부는 한국수자원공사와 함께 제주시 애월읍과 서귀포시 토평동 지역을 대상으로 유수율을 높이기 위한 시범사업을 시작합니다.

이를 위해 상수관망 최적관리시스템을 구축해 실시간으로 유량과 수압을 감시하고
급수구역을 분할해 관리함으로써 누수사고에 신속히 대처하게 됩니다.

제주도는 이같은 시범사업을 통해 오는 2021년까지 유수율을 83%까지 끌어올린다는 계획입니다.

제주지역의 유수율은 지난 2013년의 경우 44%로 전국 최하위권에 머무른 바 있습니다.
