Plastic factory fire in Iho 2-dong, Jeju City
15 treated for smoke inhalation

A fire broke out at a plastic factory in Jeju City Friday morning.

The blaze at the two-floor facility began around 9:30. The cause remains unknown.

Firefighters raced to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire within an hour and 40 minutes.

15 people, including 4 children, were transferred to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No life-threatening injuries have been reported.

Police and fire officials are questioning all factory staff and witnesses as they try to determine the exact cause of the fire, which reportedly started somewhere in the front of the factory. Investigators are also trying to get a handle on the scale of damage caused by the blaze.

제주시내 플라스틱 공장에서 화재가 발생했습니다.

오늘(29일) 오전 9시 30분 쯤 제주시 이호이동의
2층 건물 플라스틱 공장에서 원인을 알 수 없는 불이 났습니다.

화재 현장에는 소방 인력과 장비가 긴급 투입돼
불이 난 지 1시간 40여 분만에 진화됐습니다.

이번 화재로 인근 어린이 4명 등 마을 주민 15명이 연기를 마셔 병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있지만 생명에는 큰 지장이 없는 것으로 알려졌습니다.

경찰과 소방당국은 공장 관계자와 목격자들을 상대로
정확한 화재 원인과 피해 규모를 조사하고 있습니다.
