High-speed rail link between Jeju and Mokpo projected to cost \16.8t

The government has excluded a much-disputed undersea tunnel between Jeju and Mokpo from its latest railroad plans for 2016 through 2025.

Talk of the tunnel resurfaced last week after tens of thousands of flight passengers were left stranded on the island due to heavy snow.

But the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced Wednesday it decided not to include the tunnel in its third national railroad development plan, citing the astronomical cost of around 16.8 trillion won needed for the 167-kilometer project.

국토교통부의 3차 철도망 계획에서 제외됐습니다.

국토교통부는 2025년까지 추진하는 제3차 국가철도망 구축계획안에
제주와 목포를 잇는 해저터널 사업은 포함하지 않았다고 밝혔습니다.

한국교통연구원은 제주-목포 해저터널은 길이만 167km, 사업비가 16조8천억 원에 달해 이번 계획에 반영하지 않았다고 설명했습니다.
