Jeju people getting married earlier
National trend is for couples to wait to tie the knot

In contrast to the national trend, people in Jeju are choosing to tie the knot earlier than rather than later.

According to data released Wednesday by the provincial government, the average marriage age in 2013 for local men was 32.5, and for women it was 30. That dropped to 32.4 and 29.8, respectively, in 2014. The national average, however, has been consistently going up.

Authorities say the trend in Jeju to marry at a younger age is expected to have a positive effect on the local economy as it is likely to lead to an increase in the working population.

전국적으로 평균 혼인 연령이 높아지고 있지만 제주지역은 거꾸로 낮아지는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주특별자치도가 발간한 2015년 사회조사 보고서에 따르면 제주지역의 평균 혼인 연령은 2013년 남성 32.5세, 여성은 30세였지만
2014년에는 각각 32.4세 29.8세로 낮아졌습니다.

이는 전국평균이 남성은 32.4세,여성은 29.8세로 소폭 올라간 것과
대조를 보이고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도는 혼인연령이 낮아져 생산인구 증가 등 지역경제에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 것으로 분석했습니다.
