Jeju, Busan, Chungnam vie for World Fisheries University
National government to make decision next week

Jeju is vying to become Korea’s candidate site in a global race to host a United Nation’s World Fisheries University.

Busan and (충청남도) Chungcheongnam-do, or simply (충남) Chungnam, are also in the running. On-site inspections are slated to take place next week.

The Korean Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will visit Jeju on Monday, February 15th. Inspections in Busan and Chungnam will follow on the 16th and 17th, respectively.

Jeju has proposed using the former Tamna University campus for the school… which would be offered to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization at no charge. Academics at the World Fisheries University would also have access to research facilities at the Jeju Maritime Institute and the Marine Science Institute at Jeju National University.

The Korean government will announce its decision February 19th, after which the chosen province or city will focus on winning the international bid. The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization will select a host site for the university in 2017.

세계수산대학 유치 3파전...15일 제주 실사

국제연합식량농업기구 산하 세계수산대학 유치를 놓고 제주도와 부산시, 충청남도가 치열한 경쟁을 벌이고 있는 가운데, 다음주 현장 실사가 이뤄집니다.

업무를 대행하는 한국해양수산개발원은 오는 15일 세계수산대학 유치 신청서를 낸 제주도를 방문해 현장 조사에 나선다고 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 옛 탐라대를 세계수산대학 본관 터로 무상 제공하고 제주도 해양수산연구원과 제주대 해양과학연구소의 연구시설을 이용할 수 있도록 할 방침입니다.

세계수산대학 유치에는 제주를 비롯해 부산시와 충청남도가 경쟁을 벌이고 있으며
오는 19일 후보지가 확정되면 해양수산부가 국제연합식량농업기구에 추천하게 됩니다.
