Taekwondo competition underway in Jeju
300 participants battling for 12 spots on national team roster

A taekwondo competition is underway at Halla Gymnasium, and the final round of matches, which began Tuesday and will run through Friday, are the deciding factor for who will make it on the national team.

300 competitors are in the race to make it within the top 12.

Five Jeju contestants are competing… including (김선욱) Kim Seon-wook, who is sponsored by the provincial government; (이홍석) Lee Hong-seok of Jeju National University; and Jeju’s very own Kim Shin-bi (김신비), a Kyunghee University student who made the cut for the national team last year and is seeking a repeat this year.

우리나라 태권도 국가대표 최종 선발전이
내일(16일) 제주한라체육관에서 개막합니다.

대한태권도협회 주최로 내일부터 19일까지 4일동안 열리는 이번 선발전에는
지난해 각 체급별 국내랭킹과 세계대회 상위 랭킹 포인트를 합산해
상위 입상자 300명이 출전합니다.

남녀 6체급 12명의 국가대표를 선발하는 이번 대회에
제주에서는 제주도청 소속 김선욱을 비롯해 제주대학교의 이홍석 선수 등 모두 5명이 출전합니다.

또 지난해 고향 제주에서 처음 국가대표로 발탁된
경희대학교 김신비 선수도 2년 연속 태극마크에 도전합니다.
