BOK freezes key rate at 1.5%
Rate at record low for eighth consecutive month

The nation's central bank Tuesday left the key interest rate unchanged at 1.5 percent, amid further signs of a slowing economy.

The decision by the Bank of Korea's monetary policy board comes amid global market uncertainties from China and Japan as well as the closing of the Kaesong (개성) Industrial Complex in North Korea.

This is the eighth consecutive month the BOK has left the base rate at the record low of 1.5 percent.

기준금리가 연 1.5퍼센트로 8개월째 동결됐습니다.

한국은행은 오늘(16일) 오전 금융통화위원회를 열어
이번 달 기준금리를 현재의 연 1.5% 수준으로 유지하기로 했습니다.

이같은 기준금리 동결 결정은 중국과 일본 등 국제 금융시장의 불확실성과
개성공단 폐쇄 등을 감안한 것으로 보입니다.

한편 기준금리는 지난해 6월 사상 최저인 연 1.5퍼센트로 떨어진 뒤
8개월 째 같은 수준을 유지하고 있습니다.
