Lawmaker calls for wording change in Jeju Special Law
Lee Sang-bong says ‘cleanliness’ and ‘coexistence’ must be reintroduced

Meanwhile, provincial council member (이상봉) Lee Sang-bong said Tuesday that certain key terms that were taken out of the Jeju Special Law a decade ago needed to be reintroduced.

Lee explained that while the original Jeju Special Law of 1991 included the terms “clean” and “coexistence” as criteria for development on the island, but that the the words were taken out in a 2006 revision of the law.

Lee added that those two ideas - cleanliness and coexistence - were recognized as Jeju’s key values for sustainability in a recent evaluation of visions for the future of the island.

청정과 공존의 가치를 제주특별법에 되살려야 한다는 주장이 제기됐습니다.

제주도의회 이상봉 의원은 오늘(16일) 임시회 본회의 5분 발언을 통해,

지난 1991년 제정된 제주개발특별법과 제주국제자유도시특별법에는
청정과 공존의 개념이 담겨있었지만, 지난 2006년 법이 개정되며 해당 내용은 모두 삭제됐다고 주장했습니다.

특히 최근 발표된 미래비전 용역에서도 청정과 공존은 제주의 지속가능한 가치로 인정 받은만큼, 다시 제주특별법 제1조에 되살려야 한다고 강조했습니다.
