‘Swift and stern’ response to election violations
Prosecution outlines plans to keep elections clean, fair

In related news, the prosecution has announced it will respond swiftly and sternly to illegal campaigning ahead of the April 13th elections.

The Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office will allow the local election commission, upon notification, to carry out search and seizure operations before pressing charges... in order to swiftly obtain any evidence of wrongdoing.

Each electoral district will have a designated prosecutor and investigation team... and the prosecution will work in tandem with the election commission and police to root out any irregularities.

In addition, the chief prosecutor will lead any investigations regarding elected candidates and incumbent lawmakers, which are deemed to be more sensitive.

주요 선거범죄에 대해 보다 신속하고 엄정한 대처를 강조하고 있습니다.

제주지방검찰청은 우선 선관위가 선거범죄를 조사하는 과정에 필요한 경우 검찰에 통보하면 압수수색 등으로 증거를 확보하는 '고발 전 긴급통보 제도'를 확대 운영하기로 했습니다.

또 선거구별 전담검사와 수사관을 지정해 초기 단계에서부터 선관위와 경찰서 등과 보다 긴밀한 협조체계를 구축하기로 했습니다.

검찰은 이와함께 당선자나 현역의원 관련 등 중요 사건에 대해서는
부장검사를 주임검사로 지정해 수사를 진행할 계획입니다.
