More foreign tourists being caught for legal violations
49 infractions over last month

Earlier this year, the local police agency established a police unit to effectively handle issues related to tourists, and the number of foreigners caught for violating local laws since then has increased significantly.

In the last month alone, non-Koreans were involved in 49 violations, including 21 cases of jaywalking and 15 cases of working as unlicensed tour guides.

The Jeju Provincial Police Agency says the number of foreigners caught violating the law has more than tripled compared to a year ago. Only 15 violations by foreigners were reported during the same period in 2015.

The tourist police unit comprises 17 officers who speak a second language and several regular police officers who work in pairs at tourist sites across the island.

이 같은 적발건수는 관광경찰을 신설하기 전인 지난해 같은 기간
15건 보다 3배 이상 증가한 규모입니다.

관광경찰은 외국어 특채 경찰관 17명과 일반 경찰이
관광지를 중심으로 조별로 활동하고 있습니다.
