Marado Island visitor tally tops 1 million in 2015
Figure forecast to hit 1.2 million this year

Newly released figures show over a million people visited Marado Island last year.

The provincial government report showed that in 2015… some 1,045,000 people made the relatively short trip by ferry to the country’s southernmost island. That’s 41 percent more than in 2014, and the most ever in one calendar year.

Based on last year’s figure, officials project the 2016 tally to hit 1.2 million.

As a precautionary measure, the province has also announced it will perform safety inspections of all ferries that service the island as well as the amenities that are there for visitors.

지난해 마라도 방문객 100만 명 돌파

마라도를 찾은 관광객이 사상 처음으로 백만명을 돌파했습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면, 지난해 마라도 항로 여객선을 이용한
도민과 관광객은 104만 5천 명으로
전년보다 41% 가량 늘었습니다.

이같은 추세라면 올해는 120만명 돌파가 가능할 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

제주도는 안전사고 방지를 위해 여객선과 편의시설 이용 실태를 점검할 계획입니다.
