Fishing industry: catch down but prices up
January catch down 2.5%, but revenue up 15%

It was a mixed bag for the local fisheries sector in January, as the catch was down, but prices were up.

According to the Honam provincial statistical office, the sector generated 3,340 tons of fish in January, which is 2.5 percent less than a year ago.

The rock bream catch plummeted 82 percent, mackerel 60 percent, and the volume of conchs collected fell 49 percent.

Prices for octopus and yellowtail increased enough, though, to push the overall gross income in the sector up to 65.4 billion won, which represents a 15 percent year-on-year increase.

1월 도내 어업생산량↓ 생산금액↑

지난 1월 도내 어업생산량은 소폭 감소한 반면,
생산금액은 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

호남지방통계청에 따르면 지난 1월 제주지역 어업생산량은 3천340여 톤으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 2.5퍼센트 감소했습니다.

특히 돌돔 생산량이 전년보다 82퍼센트,
고등어 60퍼센트, 소라가 49퍼센트 줄었습니다.

반면 문어와 방어류 등의 가격 상승으로
생산금액은 지난해보다 15퍼센트 증가한
654억 원으로 파악됐습니다.
