3 more illegal Vietnamese immigrants caught
36 of 59 that went missing in mid-January now accounted for

Authorities say they have caught three more of the dozens of Vietnamese travelers who deliberately left a tour group earlier this year to take advantage of Jeju’s visa-free status and settle in the country as undocumented immigrants.

The Jeju Immigration Office says it caught the three illegal immigrants at an accommodation facility in Aewol-eup around the end of February. They have since been deported.

36 of the 59 Vietnamese who disappeared in mid-January have now been caught. 23 remain missing.

In a related case, 17 illegal Chinese immigrants were recently caught working at a construction site in Andeok-myeon (안덕면), Seogwipo. They are currently being investigated.

무더기 잠적 베트남인 3명 추가 적발

지난 1월 제주에 무사증으로 들어와
무더기로 사라졌던 베트남인 3명이 추가로
제주출입국사무소에 적발된 사실이 뒤늦게 알려졌습니다.

제주출입국관리사무소는 지난달 말 제주시 애월읍 숙박업소에서
머물고 있던 베트남인 3명을 붙잡아 강제 추방했다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 지난 1월 12일
제주에 무사증으로 들어와 무더기로 잠적한 베트남인 59명 가운데
지금까지 모두 36명이 적발됐고 23명의 행방은 아직도 묘연한 상태입니다.

한편, 제주출입국관리사무소는 이와는 별도로 서귀포시 안덕면 일대
건설현장 등에서 일하고 있던 중국인 17명을 무더기로 붙잡아
조사하고 있습니다.
