Lee Se-dol has come to Jeju for some well-deserved rest and relaxation after his epic tournament against Google’s AlphaGo program. As Joseph Kim now reports, a crowd of people welcomed the legendary Go master at the airport.

Lee Se-dol visits Jeju after epic battle with AlphaGo

Wearing the same suit he wore during the match against AlphaGo, Lee Se-dol arrived at the Jeju International Airport.

He came with his wife, Kim Hyeon-jin and his daughter, Hyerim.

Surprised by the massive number of people gathered to see him, Lee Se-dol walked out the airport escorted by bodyguards.

After a brief silence, Lee Se-dol expressed his thanks to all who supported him during the tournament.

He also apologized for not meeting up to people’s expectations.

The last match was so close, but it wasn’t as stressful because I enjoyed it. It didn’t end well, so I didn’t see the point in doing interviews.

Jeju trip is a good time for Lee to catch up with family

His wife and daughter returned to Korea on March 6th after staying in Canada, but he couldn’t spend much time with his family because of the matches against AlphaGo.

March 12th was Lee’s 10th wedding anniversary but he wasn’t able to celebrate it with his wife due to the AlphaGo match .

Since his arrival, Lee Se-dol had a good time with his family in Jeju.

Jeju is a special place to him because his daughter will attend one of the international schools in Jeju.

Though he is a highly experienced and accomplished in the field of Go, the match with the AI opponent brought a great deal of stress for Lee.

Now, after the historic match, he enjoyed some well earned time off with his family here on Jejudo Island.
