School trips to Jeju on the rise once again
Sector was hard hit by Sewol Ferry disaster
It’s been two years since the Sewol Ferry disaster that killed hundreds of passengers, a majority of whom were students on the way to Jeju. The number of school trips to the island dropped following the disaster, but the figures have now started to rise once again.
According to the Jeju Provincial Tourism Association, this month alone 17,400 students and teachers from 66 schools have visited Jeju. That’s 14 percent more than a year earlier.
Another 68,370 students and teachers from 331 schools are expected to visit on school trips between April and July.
The association says that if you include the number of student athletes who will be training here, the 2016 tally will surpass last year’s total of 220,000 school visitors.
