Influenza continues to spread in Jeju
72.4 of every 1,000 islanders infected at end of March

Jeju is still in the grip of the flu.

The provincial government says that in the last week of March, 72.4 of every 1,000 people on the island were infected by the flu virus.

A virus is considered to be spreading if more than 11.3 in every 1000 people are infected at any one time, so last month’s figure is more than six times that cut-off, and similar to Jeonju’s count of 73.4 out of a thousand.

Experts say proper hygiene is crucial to keeping yourself healthy. Once infected, though, they say it is vital that patients seek medical attention as soon as possible.

따스한 봄날씨에도 인플루엔자 환자가 좀처럼 줄어들지 않고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지난달 마지막 주에
제주지역의 인플루엔자 환자수는 1천명당 72.4명에 이르고 있습니다.

이같은 환자수는 유행기준인 1천명당 11.3명을 6배 이상 넘어선 것으로
전주의 73.4명에 비해 크게 나아지지 않고 있습니다.

인플루엔자를 예방하기 위해서는 무엇보다 개인위생관리가 중요하며
또 감염됐을 경우 중증으로 진행될 수 있는 만큼
초기 진료가 중요하다고 제주도는 강조하고 있습니다.
