Researchers monitoring local mosquito population
Focus on possible carriers of Japanese encephalitis virus, zika virus

Researchers have started monitoring local mosquitoes that may carry the Japanese encephalitis virus.

Researchers from the provincial government’s Institute of Health and Environment will collect mosquitoes from local farms twice a week through October to keep a close watch on possible vectors of the disease. The culex species will be watched most closely, as it is a known carrier.

Researchers will also monitor once a week over the next several months the (ay-EE-dees) aedes species, which can carry the Zika virus.

The Institute is asking all people to take precautions by wearing long-sleeved clothing while outdoors during the warmer months, when mosquitoes become active.

일본 뇌염 매개모기와 흰줄숲모기에 대한
서식 밀도 조사가 시작됐습니다.

제주특별자치도 보건환경연구원은
오는 10월까지 제주도내 소 농장에서
주 2회 모기를 채집하고,
이 가운데 일본뇌염 매개모기인
작은 빨간집모기의 개체수를 분석합니다.

또, 지카바이러스의 매개충인 흰줄숲모기에 대해서도
매주 한차례씩 매개체 밀도 조사를 진행합니다.

이와함께 보건연구원은
기온이 상승할수록 모기의 활동이 활발해지는 만큼
야외에 나갈때는 긴옷을 입어야 한다고 당부했습니다.
