Ports in Aewol, Hwasun handling much more cargo

Ports in Aewol and Hwasun are handling significantly more cargo.

In the first quarter of 2016, four million tons of goods passed through the island’s two trade and four coastal ports. That’s two percent more than the same period in 2015.

The figures didn’t change much for Jeju Port and Seogwipo Port, but coastal ports in Aewol and Hwasun saw shipping quantities grow by 60.7 percent and 25.9 percent, respectively.

The biggest increase came in the shipments of construction material such as sand, cement, and steel.

With the construction market expected to continue growing, shipments of related material are also expected to remain at the current level for the time being.

애월·화순항 중심 항만 물동량 증가

애월항과 화순항을 중심으로 항만 물동량이 크게 증가하고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 올 1분기 2군데 무역항과 4군데 연안항의 물동량은 400만톤으로 지난해 같은기간에 비해 2% 늘었습니다.

항만별로 보면 제주항이나 서귀포항의 경우 전년수준을 유지하고 있으나 연안항인 애월항은 60.7%, 화순항은 25.9% 증가했습니다.

특히 모레와 시멘트, 철재 등 건설자재의 물동량이 크게 늘고 있습니다.

제주도는 당분간 건설경기 호황세에 힘입어 이같은 현상이 이어질 것으로 예상하고 있습니다.
