‘GEC’s economic impact to reach ￦360b a year by 2021’
Korea Economic Research Institute’s projection based on 9,000 students

New research suggests that the annual economic impact of the Jeju Global Education City will likely reach 360 billion won within the next five years.

Seven international schools are expected to be in operation in the city by 2021, with some 9,000 students enrolled among them. Those were the figures the Korea Economic Research Institute used to get to the 360 billion won economic effect.

Construction costs will likely total 1.7 trillion won by 2021, but the city is also expected to earn 2.9 trillion won and lead to the creation of more than 20,000 new jobs.

한국경제연구원에 따르면 오는 2021년까지 제주영어교육도시에
국제학교 7개를 설립하고 학생 9천명을 유치할 경우
연간 3천600억원의 경제효과가 발생할 것으로 전망했습니다.

특히 연구원은 2021년까지 영어교육도시 건설에 1조7천억 원을 투입할 경우
생산유발과 부가가치 유발 효과로 2조9천억 원이 발생하고,
2만명이상의 취업유발 효과가 생길 것으로 추정했습니다.
