BOK freezes key rate for 10th straight month
1.5% since June 2015

The Bank of Korea has kept its benchmark interest rate frozen at 1.5 percent for the tenth straight month.

The BOK's monetary policy committee made the announcement Tuesday, explaining that the base rate was put on hold in order to stabilize the national economy amid uncertainties in the global market.

The central bank dropped the base rate to the current low in June 2015.

한국은행은 오늘(19일) 오전 금융통화위원회를 열어
이번달 기준금리를 현재 수준인 연 1.5퍼센트로 동결하기로 했습니다.

이같은 기준금리 동결은 대외 경제가 불확실한 상황에서
금리를 내리기 보다는 금융안정에 무게를 둔 것으로,
지난해 6월 사상 최저인 연 1.5퍼센트로 떨어진 뒤
10개월 째 같은 수준을 유지하고 있습니다.
