Largest increase in traffic volume in Korea in 2015
8.8% growth in Jeju; national average just 4.2%

The volume of traffic on island roads last year rose by 8.8 percent compared to a year earlier.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport says Jeju’s average traffic volume in 2015 rose to 10,432 cars per day. That 8.8 percent growth was more than double the national average of only 4.2 percent, and it was the highest out of all nine provinces in the country.

Some 435,000 vehicles are registered in Jeju, more than double the 213,000 that were registered here just a decade ago. Analysts also say a drop in fuel prices may have attributed to the sharp rise in traffic on the island.

지난해 제주지역의 도로교통량 증가율이 전국 최고수준을 보였습니다.

국토교통부에 따르면 지난해 도내 하루평균 교통량은 1만432대로
전년도에 비해 8.8% 늘었습니다.

이같은 증가율은 전국평균 4.2%의 2배가 넘는 것으로
전국 9개 도 가운데서도 가장 높았습니다.

국토교통부는 도내 자동차 등록대수가 43만 5천여 대로
10년전 21만 3천여대에 비해 크게 늘었고
유가하락 등의 원인으로 이같은 현상이 나타난 것으로 분석했습니다.
