Dozens of illegal migrant workers arrested
4 arrested for providing illegal employment services

Authorities have arrested dozens of illegal migrant workers from China, and the Koreans who helped them find work.

The Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office says a 49-year old surnamed Kim and three other men were arrested and charged with providing illegal employment to foreigners at workplaces in Jeju.

The four men allegedly set up an unregistered employment office in Gujwa-eup and used it to connect an average of ten illegal migrant workers a day with construction sites and farms across the island.

Prosecutors say the workers each paid 20,000 for introducing them to the workplaces, as well as an additional 100 to 200,000 won a month for accommodations.

The prosecution also arrested 26 Chinese illegal migrants found working at 21 different locations.

외국인 불법취업 알선책 등 무더기 적발

제주에서 불법 체류하며 일을 하던 중국인들과
이들에게 수수료 등을 받고 취업을 알선해준 업자 등이 무더기로 적발됐습니다.

제주지방검찰청은 미등록 직업소개소를 운영하면서 불법체류 외국인들을 취업시킨 혐의로
49살 김 모씨 등 알선업자 4명을 적발해 구속기소했습니다.

검찰에 따르면 이들은 제주시 구좌읍 일대에 미등록 인력사무소를 차려놓고
하루 평균 10여 명의 외국인을 도내 공사현장과 농작지 등에 불법취업 시켜준
혐의를 받고 있습니다.

특히 이들은 외국인으로부터 알선 수수료 명목으로 1명당 2만 원 씩을 받아 챙기는 한편
숙소 등을 제공해 주고 매월 10~20만 원의 숙소비를 받아 챙긴 것으로 확인됐습니다.

검찰은 이와 함께 외국인을 불법고용한 21개 사업장을 적발하고
현장에서 불법취업해 일을 하고 있던 중국인 26명을 검거했습니다.
