Airport car rental building to be razed
Move will create more parking spaces

In an aim to ease heavy traffic, Jeju International Airport authorities plan to demolish the car rental service building in the airport parking lot.

The provincial administration and the Korea Airports Corporation say they have decided not to renew their contract in August with the car rental services that use the building. Instead, authorities plan to open five new shuttle bus routes for the rental companies.

The building was built in early 2012. Some 100 car rental companies use it. They also use up to 60 percent of the airport parking lot for their vehicles, which tourists pick up and drop off. That, critics say, is one of the main reasons for the heavy traffic around the airport.

오는 8월로 예정된 렌터카 업체와의
'렌터카 하우스' 재계약을 추진하지 않기로 방침을 정했습니다.

대신 제주공항을 기점으로 렌터카업체를 연결하는
5개 노선을 정하고, 여기에 셔틀버스를 배정하는 방안을
검토하고 있습니다.

제주공항에는 지난 2012년 3월 마련된 렌터카 하우스에
100여군데의 업체가 입주해 운영하면서 제주공항 주차면수의 60%를 점유하는 등
공항 교통체증의 주요 요인으로 지목되고 있습니다.
