‘Navy’s right to indemnity cannot be withdrawn’
Defense minister says it may seek compensation from base opponents

The minister of defense says the Navy’s right to seek compensation for losses caused by base opponents in the village of Gangjeong cannot be withdrawn.

Recently-elected Minjoo Party lawmakers Kang Chang-il, Oh Young-hoon, and Wi Seong-gon sat down with Defense minister Han Min-gu Monday. They asked that the Navy’s right to indemnity be withdrawn in order to settle disputes between it and Gangjeong villagers who have opposed its new installation there.

Minister Han, however, reportedly rejected the request, saying that the right to indemnity was legally granted through a court ruling, and that he respected the court’s decision.

Lawmaker Kang says… once the Minjoo Party has selected a new floor leader, Minjoo lawmakers will join forces with the People’s Party on this issue and seek to resolve it at the National Assembly.

국방부, "구상권 청구는 법 절차…철회 불가"

국방부가 강정마을에 대한 해군의 구상권 청구 철회 문제와 관련해 철회 반대 입장을 고수했습니다.

더불어민주당 강창일, 오영훈, 위성곤 당선인은 오늘 오전 국방부를 찾아 한민구 국방부장관에게 해군기지와 강정 주민들의 갈등해소와 상생을 위해 해군의 구상권 철회를 요청했습니다.

이에대해 한 장관은 구상권 청구는 법 절차에 의해 제기된 만큼 법원 판단을 존중하는 것이 기본적 입장이라며 청구 철회에 대해서는 반대 입장을 보였습니다.

강창일 의원 등은 더불어민주당 원내대표 선출 이후 국민의당과 연대해 국회차원에서 문제 해결에 나서겠다고 밝혔습니다.
