Authorities are considering going public with their investigation into the murder of a Chinese woman who was found dead last month.

Seogwipo police say they have narrowed down their search to a man who withdrew money from the deceased woman’s bank account. They are struggling to identify the suspect, though, and may turn to the public for help doing so.

Police say they believe the suspect may also be Chinese. They are investigating all money exchange centers across the island and cross-checking departure records. They say there is a possibility the man may have already left Jeju.

제주에 불법체류하던 중국인 여성의 피살사건을 수사하고 있는 경찰이 유력용의자에 대한 공개수사를 검토하고 있는 것으로 전해졌습니다.

서귀포경찰서는 피해 여성의 계좌에서 현금을 인출해 간 남성을 유력 용의자로 보고 수사를 벌이고 있지만 신원파악에 어려움을 겪으면서 공개수사 여부를 검토하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 경찰은 몇가지 사항을 추가로 확인한 이후에도 용의자의 신원을 파악하지 못하면 공개수사로의 전환을 검토하기로 했습니다.

한편 경찰은 유력 용의자가 중국인일 가능성에 무게를 두고 도내 환전업소 등을 수소문 하는 한편, 제주를 빠져나갔을 것에 대비해 출국 기록을 조사하고 있습니다.
