More restrictions on construction around oreum
Province proposes limiting building height to 9 meters

The provincial government has has given advance notice of a legal revision regarding land preservation around the island’s parasitic volcanoes, called “oreum” in Korean.

The revision states that all land within a 200 meter radius of an Oreum must be protected. The level of landscape protection will be upgraded from Level 3 to Level 2. That limits the height of buildings in these areas to nine meters.

The amendment also calls for spring water and the water collected by runoff reservoirs to be labeled as Level 1 groundwater.

The provincial government will accept public opinion on the changes through June 7th. It will then submit its final proposal to the provincial council.

보전지역 조례 일부 개정안을 입법예고했습니다.

개정안에는 기생화산 경관 보호 구역을
반경 200미터로 명시됐고
이 지역은 경관 2등급으로
건축 고도가 9미터로로 제한됩니다.

이 밖에도 지하수 1등급에 용천수와 저류지 저수지를 추가하는
조항도 신설됐습니다.

제주도는 다음달 7일까지 의견 수렴을 거친 뒤
최종 개정안을 도의회에 제출할 계획입니다.
