Mark Lippert, the US Ambassador to Korea, recently visited the island and walked along one of the Olle trails. He made the trip to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the sisterhood agreement between Jeju and Hawaii. Mike Balfour reports.

Visit marks 30th anniversary of Jeju-Hawaii sisterhood agreement

The province invited him to the island to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the sisterhood agreement between Jeju and Hawaii.

He walked with some 10 local college students along the trail.
Despite it being foggy and rainy, it is easy to enjoy the island's scenery.

Along the walk they discuss the students’ worries about their future. Lippert offers words of encouragement.

He told us about international internship programs that are available, and he encouraged us to seek out and utilize internship opportunities. It gave me self-confidence. I think I can be an international worker.

This is his second visit to the island following one in May last year.
