Spike in number of non-Korean taxpayers in Seogwipo
1,200 people paid \10.6b last year

The number of foreign residents who pay taxes in Seogwipo has rapidly increased over the past few years.

According to the Seogwipo municipal administration, some 1,200 non-Korean residents paid a total of 10.6 billion won in taxes in 2015.

Just two years earlier, only 350 foreigners had paid a total of 700 million won in taxes.

The administration says the sharp rise is due to the increases in foreign real estate owners, non-Korean teaching staff, and multicultural families in the region. Officials say they will work to devise more convenient ways for non-Koreans to pay their taxes.

서귀포지역 외국인 납부 세금 급증

서귀포지역에서 외국인이 납부하는 세금이 크게 늘고 있습니다.

서귀포시에 따르면, 지난해 서귀포시에 세금을 납부한 외국인 납세자는
1천 200여 명으로 금액은 약 106억 원으로 집계됐습니다.

지난 2013년, 350여 명이 7억 원 정도를 납부한 것과 비교하면
크게 늘어난 수치입니다.

서귀포시는 투자이민제로 인한 부동산 취득자, 원어민 교사, 다문화가정이 늘었기 때문으로 보고 이들에 대한 납세편의 시책을 추진하기로 했습니다.
