Summer weather forecast released
Jeju predicted to be affected by at least one major typhoon

Experts predict the island will feel the effects of at least one powerful typhoon this summer.

The Jeju Regional Office of Meteorology recently released its three-month forecast. It foresees seven to ten typhoons in the North Pacific this summer ? fewer than the average 11.2 big storms each year.

At least one of those is expected to affect conditions on the Korean Peninsula. Officials say it will likely be a strong one. The La Nina phenomenon will cause typhoons to move fast and be more intense.

Meteorologists are also predicting more rain than usual for Jeju, especially in August.

올 여름 제주에는 태풍 1개 정도가
직접적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 전망됐습니다.

제주지방기상청이 발표한 3개월 여름철 기상 전망에 따르면
올 여름에는 북태평양 해역에서 7개에서 10개 정도의 태풍이 발생하겠고
이 가운데 1개 정도가 우리나라에 영향을 줄 것으로 예측됐습니다.
이는 평년 11.2개가 발생하는 것보다 적은 것입니다.

다만, 기상청은 라니냐의 영향으로 태풍이 우리나라를 향할 경우
비교적 단시간내에 우리나라에 도달하겠고,
강한 강도를 유지할 것으로 내다봤습니다.

또 올 여름철 제주에는 8월에 평년보다 많은 비가 내리겠고
기온은 조금 높거나 비슷할 것으로 전망했습니다.
