Another feasibility study proposed on underwater tunnel
Project would link Jeju with Mokpo, Jeollanam-do

Jeollanam-do officials want to re-run a feasibility study on an underwater tunnel between Mokpo and Jeju.

A Jeollanam-do provincial council committee has passed a budget bill that included 150 million won to reassess the plan.

Although the bill has yet to be passed by the full council, officials say it is highly likely to be receive the go-ahead. The provincial government would then commission the the Korea Transport Institute by the end of the year to conduct the feasibility study.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport commissioned a similar study in 2010. Researchers then determined that the construction of an underwater tunnel between Jeju and Mokpo would not be feasible.

전라남도가 제주 - 목포 해저터널 건설에 따른
타당성 용역을 재추진할 예정이어서 결과가 주목됩니다.

전라남도에 따르면 전남도의회 예산결산특별위원회는
어제(23일) 해저터널 타당성 재검증 용역비 1억 5천만원을 반영해
통과시켰습니다.

특히 전라남도는 본회의가 남아 있긴 하지만
사실상 관련 예산이 확보된 것으로 보고
올해 안에 한국교통연구원에 용역을 의뢰하기로 했습니다.

국토교통부는 6년 전인 지난 2010년
제주 - 목포 해저터널 건설사업에 대해 용역을 벌여
타당성이 없다는 결론을 내렸었습니다.
