Lawmaker submits motion to stabilize local housing prices
Wi Seong-gon proposes giving more rights to provincial government

One of Jeju’s representatives at the National Assembly has submitted a proposal designed to stabilize housing prices here.

Minjoo Party lawmaker Wi Seong-gon has submitted a motion to revise the Jeju Special Law and give the local government more power to rein in the real estate market.

The proposed revision would transfer from the national to the provincial government the right to cap prices for newly-built housing units or lift those restrictions, the right to designate certain districts as speculation-prone, and control over dealing with the illegal resale of apartment ownership rights in Jeju.

Wi argued it was crucial that those rights be handed over to the local government in order to implement laws tailored to the island and stabilize the housing market.

제주형 주택가격 안정 대책을 마련하기 위한 법 개정이 추진됩니다.

더불어민주당 위성곤 국회의원은 주택가격 안정에 대한 정부 권한을 제주도로 이양하는 내용의
제주특별법 개정안을 대표 발의했습니다.

특별법 개정안은분양가상한제 적용 지역의 지정 또는 해제, 투기과열지구 지정 기준,
전매제한 기간 등에 대한 정부 권한을 제주특별자치도로 이양하도록 했습니다.

위성곤 의원은 제주 실정에 맞는 주택가격안정 대책을 수립하고 시행하기 위해서는
이와 관련한 핵심 권한의 이양이 필수적이라며 법안 발의 배경을 설명했습니다.
