‘Horsehair craft village’ to be created
Culture ministry to invest \600m

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism wants to develop villages that specialize in handicrafts, and it has agreed to fund Jeju City’s idea to create and develop a village dedicated to horsehair crafts.

The city will be given 600 million won to use between this year and 2018. It will use the funding to boost the competitiveness of the local craftwork.

Officials say this will breathe new life into the diminishing tradition. It is also expected to create new jobs and added economic value through various events and the sales of horsehair products.

'말총공예' 지역공예마을 육성사업 선정

문화체육관광부가 주관한 지역공예마을 육성사업에
제주시가 신청한 제주말총 공예마을 육성 사업이 선정됐습니다.

제주시는 이에따라 오는 2018년까지 3년동안
6억원의 사업비를 지원받아
말총공예를 중심으로 제주공예문화 경쟁력을 강화해 나갈 계획입니다.

특히 사라져가는 말총공예의 명맥을 유지하고
계승발전시킬 수 있는 환경은 조성할 방침입니다.

제주시는 이 사업을 통해 전통공예 작품 체험과 판매 등으로
일자리와 경제적 부가가치 창출에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
