61st Memorial Day ceremony held
Thousands gather Monday at Choonghon Cemetery

The 61st Memorial Day ceremony was held Monday at the (충혼) Choonghon Cemetery in Jeju City.

Some 2,000 people, including Governor Won Heeryong, patriots, veterans, and bereaved family members paid their respects.

Won paid tribute to the fallen veterans, saying their sacrifices are what has today become the drive for us to overcome all obstacles. The governor also said he would do all that he could to honor those sacrifices with dignity.

The day was also observed with memorial ceremonies held in other national cemeteries across the island...in Hallim, Aewol, and Gujwa.

제61회 현충일 추념식이
(6일) 오전 제주시 충혼묘지에서 거행됐습니다.

추념식에는 원희룡 제주도지사와 보훈단체장, 국가유공자,
유가족 등 2천여 명이 참석해 순국선열들의 넋을 기렸습니다.

이 자리에서 원희룡 도지사는 추도사를 통해
선열들의 헌신은 우리 앞에 놓인 어떠한 위기도
극복할 수 있게 하는 원동력이 되어 왔다며,
희생에 부끄러움이 없도록 온 힘과 정성을 다하겠다고 말했습니다.

이와 함께 한림과 애월, 구좌 등 각 읍.면 충혼묘지에서도
일제히 추념식을 열고 헌화와 분향을 하며 순국 선열들의 숭고한 넋을 기렸습니다.
