Better security at school residences on remote islets
Response to gang rape of teacher on South Jeolla islet

The Provincial Office of Education says it will work to make teachers who live at school residences on remote islets safer.

This move comes in response to the gang rape of a female school teacher on an islet off South Jeolla Province by three locals.

There are currently five school residences on remote Jeju islets. A total of 31 male and 27 female teaching staff reside in them.

CCTV, anti-burglary windows, and safety buzzers will be installed in all five residences.

제주도교육청이 도서벽지에서 거주하는 교사들의 안전을 위해
학교 관사 치안 시스템을 일제 점검합니다.

이에 따라 교육청은 다음주 섬 지역 학교 관사를 직접 방문해
CCTV와 방범창, 안전벨 설치 여부 등을 점검하고
치안에 취약한 부분은 보완합니다.

한편 제주에서는 비양도와 우도, 추자도 등 섬 지역에
남자 31명, 여자 27명 등 모두 58명이 근무하고 있습니다.
