New location sought for industrial complex
Governor argues Jeju needs facility

Following the province’s announcement that it was scrapping its plan to establish an industrial complex in (도남동) Donam-dong, officials are now looking into other options.

Governor Won Heeryong said at a press briefing on Monday that it was vital that an industrial complex be built in Jeju due to the weakness of the secondary sector in the local economy.

He said that the province needed to reexamine company demands and investment plans for the new site of the complex, as much has changed over the past three years since Donam-dong was first selected.

Won also pointed out the importance of preserving Jeju’s mountainous regions in considering new locations.

산업단지의 조성계획은 반드시 필요하다고 밝혔습니다.

지금은 도남동을 후보지로 정할때인 3년전에 비해
기반시설이나 발전계획이 달라진 만큼
새롭게 기업의 수요와 투자의향을 조사해
차선책을 마련해야 한다고 강조했습니다.

다만 새로운 부지를 검토하면서
중산간 보존 방침을 깨서는 안 된다고 덧붙혔습니다.
