Province proposes cap on number of rental cars
Number of vehicles has doubled in last 6 years

Authorities want to cap the total number of rental cars in Jeju.

The provincial government says it added a clause to that effect in its proposal for the sixth revision of the Jeju Special Law.

The move comes amid intensifying competition among car rental companies to lower prices as well as poor management by the firms, which experts say is tarnishing Jeju’s image.

In 2010, there were 14,000 rental cars on the island. That figure has now doubled to over 28,000. Six years ago, there were 62 car rental companies; now there are 104. This year alone, 11 new firms opened up shop.

제주도내 렌터카 차량수는
지난 2010년 1만 4천여대에서 지금은 2만 8천여대로,
업체수 역시 2010년 62개에서 현재 104군데로 늘었으며
특히 올해만 하더라도 11개 업체가
신규로 렌터카 사업에 뛰어들었습니다.
