Security guard’s weapon fired when it hit pillar

A tear gas gun accidentally discharged at Jeju International Airport earlier this week.

The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. Sunday in the waiting area in front of the arrivals terminal. The Jeju Branch of the Korea Airports Corporation says the discharge of the security guard’s weapon resulted in an emergency evacuation.

Airport authorities later explained that the gun went off accidentally after it hit a column. They said they would conduct safety training on tear gas gun use and examine all weapons in response to the incident.

제주국제공항에서 직원이 휴대하고 있던 가스총이
발사되는 사고가 발생했습니다.

한국공항공사 제주지역본부에 따르면
어제(19일) 오후 5시 40분쯤 국제선 도착 대합실 입구에서
특수경비원이 휴대하고 있던 가스총이 발사돼
주변에 있던 직원과 관광객들이 대피하는 소동이 벌어졌습니다.

공항공사는 특수경비원의 가스총이 주변 기둥에 부딪히면서
충격에 의해 가스액체가 누출됐다며
가스총기 안전교육과 점검 실시하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
