E. coli found after HS students, staff get sick
7 of 9 affected people test positive for bacteria

Seven of the nine students and staff at a local high school who simultaneously came down with diarrhea last week have tested positive for E. coli.

The provincial office of education requested an examination by the Korea Food and Drug Administration regarding the incident last Thursday. Preliminary results have come back showing that E. coli was found in all but two of the cases.

Further results will be announced on the 24th after examinations of all kitchen utensils and drinking water at the school.

The school in question has temporarily ceased providing school meals and has shortened classes until the end of this week.

지난 주 집단 설사 증세를 보인 고등학교 학생과 교사 가검물에서
병원성 대장균이 검출됐습니다.

제주도교육청은 지난 16일 신고된 환자 9명을 대상으로 식품의약품안전처에 가검물 검사를 의뢰한 결과
환자 7명의 가검물에서 병원성 대장균이 검출됐다고 밝혔습니다.

나머지 환자의 가검물과 칼, 도마, 행주, 조리용수, 음용수 등에 대한 검사 결과는 오는 24일 발표될 예정입니다.

한편 해당고등학교는 아직 정확한 발병원인이 규명되지 않음에 따라 학교 급식 중단과 단축 수업을 24일까지 실시하고 있습니다.
